Round 3 of the Canadian Formula 1200 Championship took place on July 23/24 2022 at historic Mosport, now called Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. The race was presented by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) the same marshals who flag the Honda Indy Toronto.

Starting with a warm, dry Friday practice session, the race weekend really kicked off on Saturday. Demaras qualified the Vallis Motor Sport machine in P5, frustrated by a mechanical gremlin that did not show up in six practice sessions. After replacing the fuel filter and installing a new throttle pedal bracket, the MagiSeal sponsored machine was back to full speed…and Daniel was ready.

Regional race weekends at Mosport are so much more than just F1200 cars. Sports cars, GTs (including a Subau Legacy), and even a full-blown, NASCAR Truck Series race car competed in various categories and divisions. With some wet (but rapidly drying) sessions, it was a difficult and challenging weekend.

In race 1, Daniel finished just off the podium, but earned the Hard Charger award for most positions gained. Race 2 was Demaras’ first every ‘rain race’ in F1200, and he kept it on the island, bringing the No.12 home in a Top-5 finishing position.

As often happens in racing, one is left wondering what might have been. In the Feature Race on Sunday afternoon, Demaras was within striking distance of the podium, crossing the line 0.328 seconds back from the P3 on Lap 9 when a scary red flag stoppage ended the race early.

Up next, the Peter Jackson Races at Shannonville Motorsports Park on Saturday August 6 2022.
