The fourth and final round of the Inter Club Challenge was held at Goodwood Kartways over the Labour Day long weekend. Daniel arrived early on Thursday for driver training and practice with Curtis Fox.

Several members of PRO were on hand for an early practice day. With school starting next week racers like Daniel and his friend Matte Ferrari will be hitting the books, so this was one more day to hit the track.

With so many chassis changes to the No.12 in recent weeks, getting the right setup was difficult. So, to get a professional opinion, Curtis jumped into Daniel kart to turn a few laps, and help dial it in. Daniel got a real laugh when he saw his driving coach spin the kart at Turn 4. But once warmed up, Curtis suggested a change to front caster to improve the front end.

Friday’s Team Test Day went off without a hitch, and on race day, old friend Christopher Proietto teamed up with Chris Demaras to wrench on Daniel’s kart.

Daniel qualified in 14th place with a 42.918 second lap; one tenth slower than he ran in morning warmup. Demaras got off to a great start in the pre-final, making passes around the outside of turn one and treacherous turn four. He then avoiding the spinning kart of Chad Webster to move up into 10th. Daniel was passed by Alec Drummond, and later lost another place to team mate Nate Franco. Daniel crossed the line 12th, with Webster finishing only 5 hundreths of a second behind.

Starting the final in 12th position, Daniel lost two places off the start to Franco and Webster, but was soon locked into a fight with Franco and Travis Bracey. The drivers swapped position, lap after lap, until a collision between Franco and Bracey cost the katter five spots. Daniel capitalized, passing Nate out of turn nine. Demaras was now going wheel to wheel with Franco. Daniel lost a place in turn one, despite his best efforts to hold on around the outside. Demaras passed Franco at turn five, but would finish the race behind Nate due to being overtaken at turn one (compounded by Daniel experiencing a lockup at turn four). Demaras finished the race in a respectable 11th place.

“Overall, a pretty fun weekend. It’s always good to get back to Goodwood, and always good to go wheel to wheel against good drivers. Though I didn’t win the battle today, there’s still three races left, including the night race next weekend. Hoping I can end the season of well, and bring the No.12 PRO kart up to 6th in the TRAK standings, and make my sponsors K1 Speed, Scarboro Subaru, Nostalgia Coffee Co, KPMG, Kenya Coffee, and Laird Auto Body proud, all while raising awareness for Racing to End Alzheimer’s.”
