In a social media post this week, the Coupe de Montreal (a karting championship held on kart tracks around Montreal) gave their take on a statement released by GDS, the new Canadian ASN.
The new Canadian ASN, Groupe de Développement Sportif (GDS), has issued a statement stating that despite the title an event may have, there is no ASN sanctioned national karting championship for 2020 due to covid-19.
The actual statement from the ASN does not include any wording about “…despite the title an event may have…” at all. It simply reads:
Sports Development Group (GDS), would like to clarify that there is no Canadian National Karting Championship event sanctioned by the new ASN for 2020, due to COVID-19.
We will continue to work towards developing national programs for 2021 as well as instituting a national licensing program and will have more news in the coming months.
So, for those of you who were confused, the 2020 KartStars Canada National Championships is not the same as the previous years ASN Canada FIA National Karting Championships … which does not exist in 2020, but hopefully will in 2021. Guess the friendly folks in Montreal just wanted to clear up that burning question.
