File this under ‘This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things’.
Here at Demaras Racing, our main focus is racing. But since so much of our year is spent away from the track, we sometimes run articles advocating for motorists. However, when news stories like this come out, it’s difficult to defend our fellow drivers.
What a day. This kid woke up, aced his drivers test, got caught doing 81 km/h over the limit, lost his license, and got his father’s Dodge Challenger impounded. Maybe some people shouldn’t be allowed to drive.
My friend was bummed the other day because he got a speeding ticket. He was going 130 km/hr (converted this just for you) which is his typical speed. I felt sorry for his disappointment but it really isn’t that hard not to drive like a race car driver on the regular roads is it?
Agreed. Modern cars with all the sound insulation are very easy to speed in. Very.
.
These government agencies are unclear whether ‘active’ or ‘passive’ speed governors are on the cards.
.
But I think folks like your friend would benefit from a passive governor. A chime or alarm that tells you that you’re over the limit (by 10% or whatever). That actually seems like useful technology. And thats what’s mandated jn the EU starting this July.
Fascinating! Did not know there were two kinds. I wonder if my fancy little car has some setting I could turn on related to speed awareness.
Some car compamies call it Intelligent Speed Assistance or some other fancy thing like that. But even if your car doesn’t have that feature, I bet your navigation system does. A simple alarm (like when your seatbelt isn’t fastened) lets you know you’re over the limit.
.
Quite useful
I’ll look into it!
