The textbook definition of a racing livery is the paint scheme and decal design that gives a race car its unique characteristic. As Demaras Racing plans out our 2024 livery, we’re looking options.

We thought of copying an established Formula 1 or IndyCar livery, like classic Marlboro or Rothman’s livery! But our sponsors might not appreciate the cigarette tie-in. And it’s not very original.

While searching the website Trading Paints, we found plenty of food inspired designs. Hot dogs, bananas and earns of corn seem well suited to the shape of the Formula 1200 car. We probably should have approached a restaurant chain for sponsorship.

How about black! It looks mean, sinister and imposing. And nobody in the racing world has yet topped the black and gold of the John Player’s Special livery. But black doesn’t really stand out very much, especially against the asphalt.

What about lovely colours! It turns out some people don’t actually like black on black, and actually prefer light, pastel colours like the Silk Cut Jaguar livery (cigarettes again) or the baby blue hue of a Dorito’s cool ranch tortilla chip.

So many choices and options. You want something original, that reflects the driver and honours the sponsors. But that’s not an easy thing to design in a visually appealing way.

We sent a few ideas to a graphic designer, so let’s wait and see what he comes up with first.
