Gosh, I so much want to make fun of this story. To joke about how impressive it is that kids in the UK start on their career paths so early. But we’re talking about an 11-year-old car thief; it’s a miracle nobody was hurt.

The BBC reported that a travel trailer was stolen from a campsite in the UK, and the owner duly called the local police. The owner told investigators that it was being towed away by a dark-coloured BMW X5. The North Yorkshire Police were able to track down the BMW travelling southbound on the highway, towing the stolen trailer behind it.

When police pulled over the vehicle, they were flabbergasted to find an 11 year old child behind the wheel. Inside the BMW police found ‘tools of he trade’ commonly used to carry out vehicle thefts. There were fake license plate on the BMW, and several more fake plates in the vehicle. The boy was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including theft, burglary, going equipped for theft, and dangerous driving.

The BMW X5 is a 6,000 lb, 300+ HP vehicle. That’s a lot of weight and power for any motorist to handle. Now imagine it in the hands of a child with no formal driver training. The results could be disastrously, especially if the young car thief decided to make a run for it. On a positive note, the lil’ thief did make sure to stay under the vehicles maximum towing capacity.

  1. Wow…11 years old! shocking isn’t it. I would take a punt on ‘who they are’ to be nicking camping trailers! It is big shame…the UK and society is in a slow race to the bottom I am afraid, probably like several other places. I and my Son are looking forward to the day we can escape the UK I think! Best…Jay

    1. Agreed… totally shocking. The BBC afticle described the police officers as ‘flabbergasted’ when they pulled over the child.
