When most folks think about Ireland, the first things that spring to mind are Guinness, whiskey and U2. But petrolheads know that the greatest thing ever to come out of Ireland was the 1982 DeLorean DMC-12.

The DeLorean factory was located in The Cutts, a suburb on the edge of Belfast, Northern Ireland. While only 8,987 cars were built between January 1981 and December 1982, the car remains to this day a great symbol of Irish pride.

Tomorrow, the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade will wind its way through downtown Toronto. Starting at 12:00 pm at the corner of St. George and Bloor St West, the parade will head eastbound, then turn south on Yonge St before ending at Dundas St. A large number of DeLorean’s are expected to take part in the parade, so have your cameras ready!

I am a big fan of Irish stuff, from the red ale to TV sitcoms, and the controversial DeLorean, of course. There is a good amount of shenanigans behind the DeLorean but I don’t know half of it. I need to dig deeper into this interesting story.
From a young age, I too was always a fan of Irish stuff (like red-haired girls).
.
But I didn’t know the DeLorean was Irish-built until just 2 years ago when CBC ran an article on the first post-pandemic St. Paddy’s Day parade in Toronto and showed a picture of a FLEET of DeLoreans cruising down the parade route. How cool is that!?
.
Plenty of pro and anti John DeLorean movies for easy research on the subject.
Red-haired Irish girls… LOL!! You are incorrigible, Chris. To be honest, I didn’t know about the DeLoreans being Irish-built until recently.
Like Charlie Brown. Remember how he had a crush on the little red-haired girl? That was me.
.
I watched the news yesterday and cheered when I saw the DeLoreans, even if there were fewer this year.
