Last month we shared the tale of a creative bunch from South Africa that built a Formula 1 style ‘halo’ into their JForce Formula Vee race car. This past weekend was the first race weekend for the car. Here’s their recap of the weekend.
Our weekend started with promise, anticipating the opportunity to showcase our car and its capabilities to promote Gouws Motorsport’s JForce Formula Vee Race Car. The goal was clear: demonstrate its prowess and sell the car to build more race cars and grow the business. However, what ensued was far from what we had envisioned. Life, in its unpredictable nature, dealt us a heavy blow—a dream turned into a nightmare.

Throughout the day, we faced a myriad of challenges. From handling issues to faulty batteries, each hurdle seemed insurmountable. Yet, by the time race one arrived, we had overcome them all. As we left the pit lane onto the warm-up lap, I began to smile, confident that we could pass at least 10 cars. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be; our race lasted only half a lap. The feeling of driving the car, even for just half a lap, was exhilarating. It embodied the vision my father had for us—a vision that materialized in race one. Despite the challenges, we were poised for success until fate intervened.

The incident unfolded swiftly as we entered the esses, a high-speed section of the circuit. A competitor ahead spun unexpectedly, initially veering towards the inside of the track. Anticipating his trajectory, I committed to the outside line, only for him to careen backward across my path. The car in front narrowly avoided him, but I wasn’t as fortunate. The impact was jarring, bringing our race—and our aspirations—to an abrupt halt.

I reserve a special place of gratitude for my father. Our time together at the track—working on the car, sharing laughs, and enduring struggles—is cherished beyond measure. Dad, your dedication, hard work, and unwavering support are the pillars upon which our endeavors stand. Thank you for everything.
In the realm of motorsport, dreams may turn into nightmares, but it’s the pursuit of those dreams that defines our resilience.

Together, we’ll navigate the twists and turns, on and off the track, fueled by passion and unwavering determination.
