Here’s an interesting series that might have you selling off your Miata; the GR Cup North America series. Sanctioned by SRO Motorsports Group, the GR Cup features a large field of competitors in identical Toyota GR86 machinery.

The fourteen-race calendar travels to seven racing circuits including Sebring, Circuit of the Americas, Road America and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With the naturally-aspirated, inexpensive ‘spec’ cars, the GR Cup is an excellent entry level sports car series for drivers looking to move up in their careers. But GR Cup cars are no slow pokes. They’re race=prepped with Bosch ECU, Borla exhaust and SADEV 6-speed sequential gearboxes.

One of the most interesting teams competing in the series is JMF Motorsports. Established in 2020 by John Farrow, a performance driver, motorsport enthusiast and longtime Vice President of Farrow Family Holdings. The team set out to help bring promote young Canadian racing talent and provide them an opportunity to advance their careers.

After three seasons in partnership with Conquest Racing in the SRO GT4 series, JMF Motorsports became an independent team in 2024. The team currently competes in the Michelin Pilot Series and the SRO GT4 and GR cup.

It’s great to see a Canadian team competing on the international racing stage.

    1. Funny, because at our house ‘Toyota’ means the same as ‘appliance’ as in ‘refrigerator ‘.
      .
A machine that does a specific job without joy or complaint. Like a beige Camry.
      .
But the Toyota GR86 is built on the same production line as it’s twin, the Subaru BRZ. So that makes it cool in our books.
