The great western philosopher C. Brown once asked “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?“. According to the Pink Panther, it’s all about the desire to own a luxury sports car. That’s the message of the 2011 holiday special ‘A Very Pink Christmas‘ and it really resonated with gearheads.

It’s Christmas in the big city, and the shoppers are rushing home with their treasures. Pink Panther gets positively mauled by the crowds, but keeps his spirits up. He even gives a couple bucks to a Tiny Tim looking street kid.

While out buying presents, Pink Panther and his rival Big Nose both see a shiny new ‘Z’ sports car and instantly fall in love with it.

To earn enough cash to buy the buy the coveted car, both characters go into business selling Christmas trees, right across the street from one another. It’s capitalism at its finest as each outdoes the other with dazzling displays and crazier commercials. Big Nose is so jealous of Pink Panther’s success that he tries to ruin his rival by framing him for armed robbery! Not exactly the usual Christmas carol.

Once he gets sprung from the clink, the Pink Panther finally has enough to buy the ‘Z’ and is all smiles. While counting up his bucks, he once again stumbles across the Tiny Tim kid; penniless. All the kid wanted was a Christmas tree.

While staring up at a twinkling star (which calls to mind Linus’ big speech in ‘Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown‘) Pink Panther has a change of heart. Not a complete metamorphosis like the Grinch, but Pink Panther begins to understand the true Christmas spirit of giving.

The Pink Panther in ‘A Very Pink Christmas‘ is available on his official YouTube channel. Make sure to check out the original 1978 classic ‘A Pink Christmas‘ too.

    1. Me too! I think it’s internationally loved.

But I found a Pink Panther series from the 90s where he SPOKE and had the same voice actor as Garfield (the orange cat). How weird.
