The Dakar, what used to be the Paris-Dakar Rally, has been merciless this year. The first high-profile victim was Carlos Sainz Sr the double World Rally Champion, who had a rollover in his Ford. While he was able to continue after the incident, he has since been forced to retire from the race due to damage to the vehicle’s roll cage.
Now, the multi-time World Rally Champion, Sebastien Loeb, has met with disaster.
The Frenchman barrel-rolled at the start of the stage scattering chunks of bodywork across the sand. The veteran racer made some rapid repairs, and made it back to base before the end of the day, falling an hour behind the leaders.
Video doesn’t want to load at the moment. Ars you somehow watching this race? YouTube? Looks like a pretty interesting thing to watch.
Hmm… odd that the video didn’t load. I changed a setting and re-posted. Maybe it will work now.
.
Either way, all of this stuff is on Dakar’s YT channel (as you guessed) at https://www.youtube.com/@OfficialDakar
.
It’s impossible for a TV station to broadcast a 17 day race on the other side of the world. So each night, they put together a highlights package and stick it online. So, it’s always up to date, but always a day late.
Will check it out.
Hey Susan, quick question.
This morning I was reading a WB blog post in the ‘reader’ section. The writer referred to a video, which I could not see. But when I opened up their actual website (not on WP) I could see the video, no problem.
When you mentioned earlier that the video in THIS post didn’t load, was that in the ‘reader’ section… or on the public website?
PS Does it work now?
great question. normally when i am in reader i can see your videos but often cannot see embedded youtube videos. on my computer i think i can usually access everything. when i get home tonight i will investigate and report back.
See, the funny thing is that I never use reader. I see a post I like, and I click on the link to see the post on the individuals website, because I know it will look better
.
I put some solid effort into arranging pictures into ’tiled galleries’ that tell a story. But when you look at the same page in reader, it’ just a bunch of pictures in a row. Not at all the way I intended.
i only learned last weekend about choosing to read on the actual website. our son was in town and he is my go-to for all things electronic that i can’t figure out. to be fair, greg calls me TS@H (tech support at home), but sometimes the simplest things escape me. now that i have learned this you can be sure i will be reading your blog in my browser rather than reader
WP is simply the platform that demaras.com is built on. We could have chosen Wix or GoDaddy but WP was the easiest to use, and had so many cool ‘themes’ to choose from, for the look of the website. This must be our 5th different version!
.
Only found out a year ago that there was a blogging community, and a daily writing prompt.
.
Bottom line, WP reader does a disservice to anyone who uses WP to host their website. Nothing looks right.
.
well i’m glad you chose wordpress. i also found out just over a year ago about this community and i love it.
Same here. Christmas holidays ’23 with nothing but time on my hands. Stumbled across the other functions on WP. Glad I did!
as you completely transform my experience of reading blogs with your offhand comment about reading them online. lol. thanks for the tip!
That’s why they can me TS@T …Tech Support in Toronto!
GMTA!
actually, the video did work just now in reader. and WOW. is a drone filming that? how do they do the filming in a circle like that?
I changed some settings and everything worked… good. Now I know what to do for next time. I don’t embed a lot of videos; I usually just like to YT. But at least I know how to properly show video when I need to break copyright laws!
.
Drone> Heck no! That is a helicopter shot. You should see what a massive undertaking it is to shoot a race through the desert.
oh a helicopter! well, let’s just say i’m a noob at most things car racing, let alone filming the events.
Hey, no harm, no foul. How are you supposed to know about helicopters in desert races on the other side of the world.
.
Myself, I’m not a terribly big rally fan. The events go on for days and days. There’s no wheel to wheel competition. But in January each year when there’s no other motor racing events, Dakar is what we focus on.
