Driving a Mazda Miata is a challenge when it comes to packing supplies for the track. Even with the factory-equipped ‘donut’ spare in the garbage, and all the trunk carpeting removed, a full-size spare still can’t fit in there.

So a mechanical wizard named Austin Robbins decided to build a trailer out of a wrecked NA Mazda Miata to tow behind his mint-condition NA Mazda Miata track car. Now Robbins can bring 4 race wheels and tires to the track, in the limited space between the trailer’s 2 wheels. The rear half of the car including coilover suspension were retailed, with the nose and front bumper of the car grafted on.

While functional, the fit and finish of the trailer is less than perfect. No offense to Robbins, though. He’s built something amazing with just a wrecked car, a welder and some ingenuity.
pretty clever but i’m going to nitpick i wish the trailer color matched the car color.
It looks so stupid. You’re not nitpicking. If I knew a car magazine or online publication was coming to take pics of my ‘creation’ you can bet that I would spray some rattle-can white paint on the bumpers. Even better, some black paint and a white stripe down the side, and match the car.

Take a look at this Subaru Forester. This is the way to do it!

yes, the forester did it right!
That’s a funky little Miata trailer. Very clever, indeed.
As the owner of a Miata with oversized wheels/tires, I can say that it’s nearly impossible to fit even 1 spare in the boot. A trailer like this would be a cool way to go to the race track. Way better than towing the whole car.
