Stumbled across this video from a rental kart track. A driver was released onto the track in the opposite direction, and the worst case scenario occurred; a head-on collision.
Before racing cars, Demaras Racing spent years at the karting track. Hate to say it, but this happened at least once a year at the track. One of our karts even got destroyed in a similar incident (Daniel was not driving it).
Was that go-kart-track-employee error? Or driver error? That is quite the dramatic crash. Hope no one was hurt.
I really am not sure how that crash happened, and I’ve watched that video 100 times already trying to figure it out.

Some of the comments on the Instagram post I stole (in Portuguese) indicate that the driver going backwards had actually messed up a corner, jumped over the barriers (the tires) then just kept going… IN THE WRONG DIRETCION!
.
I spent years racing karts like that, and occasionally I too ran off the track. But you have to make sure the track is clear when you re-enter, and not, like in this case, just blindly put your foot to the floor.
.
Waivers aside, I bet this resulted in a lawsuit.

This is why electric indoor kart places are so much safer; they can remote control shut off any or all karts.
