With the snow rapidly melting from all the warm weather, for certain car meets are starting up again. This time, OntariosCarScene organized a meet up in the west end. The location was set for 515 Lakeshore Rd in Mississauga, but it seems that the local police caught wind of the event.

The alarmist Toronto media calls these parking lot meets ‘unsanctioned car rallies‘ which is such an incendiary name. It’s just a bunch of gearheads hanging out, showing off their cars and peacefully interacting with one another. As far as ‘unsanctioned’, since when do Canadians need authorization to park in the Tim Horton’s lot? This is still a free country!

Police had already ‘staked out’ the Lakeshore location, lying in wait to. The plan seemed to be to ticket anyone who approached for a variety of issues. Lowered suspension, loud exhaust, extra LED lighting under the car… clearly all crimes against humanity.

Organizer OCS quickly relocated the meet 20km north-west to 6966 Financial Dr, directly across the street from the Regional Police Headquarters. Very ballsy!

There was a huge turnout of spectators. High-dollar car at the meet included a McLaren, AMG Mercedes coupe, and an Audi RS7 driven by the loudnf4st guys. Most of the summer cars are still in storage, but all-wheel drive cars such as the BMW M3, Toyota GR Corolla, and Subaru WRX STi all made it to the show.

Not going to lie; the car meet did get a little out of hand. Many cars were showing off doing ‘two-step’ battles, shooting flames out of their exhaust pipes. It’s an old trick that greasers used to do in the 1950s, except back then a spark plug was welded into the exhaust pipe downstream of the muffler, igniting unburned fuel.

Today, the same flame-show is achieved by tuning an engine’s ECU to make shotgun pops, or flames, or both. One unfortunate teenager accidentally lit his rear bumper on fire, and had to drive backwards into a snowbank to put out the flames.

We at Demaras Racing consider ourselves ‘civilized’ gearheads. We came to see cool cars at the show, not to burn up a set of tires doing donuts like one hooligan in a yellow Mustang was doing.

Despite some buffoonery, Friday night was a little taste of summer, and the upcoming car-show season. It was a great chance to see some old friend, and even make some new friends. Can’t wait for the next secret meet somewhere in Toronto.
