Every year, the Demaras Racing family attempts a new and exciting driving discipline. From the ILR Car Control School to the Race Lab rally school, the goal is to add new tools to the racing toolbox while having fun.

This year, the team will learn to slide sideways at Drift Control. The performance driving school is run by stunt-driver Nelson Monteiro and will be hosting training days on April 19th & 20th 2025 at the Essa Agriplex in Barrie (an hour north of Toronto). The cars provided by Drift Control for the ‘arrive & drive’ class include:

Mazda Miata NA

A short-wheelbase sports car supplied to students, and equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Miata’s driveline and suspension have been modified for track use and also to be more ‘drift friendly’ for beginners. The Miata has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and at only 2,100 Lbs, the nimble roadster is easily pitched into a drift and very responsive.

Lexus SC400

Big,, long wheelbase, and automatic, this is the perfect starter car. Powering the Lexus is a Toyota 1UZ-FE engine. The 4.0 L V8 engine is known for its reliability and durability; a true masterpiece for production vehicles. The Lexus SC is considered a “Toyota Supra in a Tuxedo” as it essentially shares identical suspension, steering components, and nearly identical chassis layout as the revered 4th Gen Toyota Supra.

The program includes friendly individual in-car training to monitor driver progress and offer feedback. Throughout each event, the course layout changes, making it more challenging for the student as they advance.

  • The training day is broken down in to three stages, allowing students to learn at their own pace.

    – The first stage is completing a full circle drift using the basic controls of the car.

    – During the second stage, students advance to the challenge of transitioning. Students are trained to switch the car from one drift to another drift in the opposite direction.

    – In the third stage, the idea of ‘clipping points’ is introduced, taking what students have learned and going further! This involves testing car control on how to precisely aim the car to targets without spinning out.

Spaces are limited, so anyone interested in this thrilling event (which runs rain or shine) are encouraged to visit www.driftcontrol.ca
