If a car guy was ever elected Premier of Ontario, their first order of business would be to scrap automated speed cameras in the province. They’re just a cash grab that don’t stop recidivists from speeding, and hurts the poor more than the wealthy.
For example, there’s former New York governor Andrew Cuomo. On the one hand he’s a gearhead. He owns a 1975 Corvette and a 1968 Pontiac GTO, and his ‘daily driver’ is a late model Dodge Charger with a big-block 392 cubic inch V8.

Yet former governor Cuomo is also the dude that signed a bill into law which created NYC’s speed camera program in 2013. The opportunist even signed an expansion of the school zone coverage while standing next to his mommy on Mother’s Day in 2019.
Ironic that he got nabbed by those same speed cameras he helped create. Cuomo got caught twice within one minute while speeding up the West Side Highway last month. Public records also indicate he got two more tickets within a week for speeding in Brooklyn school zones. Total cost for those 4 tickets: only $365.

To a working stiff lucky enough to drive Charger, nearly four hundred bucks in fines would put a major dent in their wallet. But for a fat-cat politician like Cuomo, that’s peanuts! Is he even ashamed of speeding through school zones, or will he simply deny that he was driving, and blame an underling for taking his too-fast car on an errand. Shameful.
