Things looked different on the Saturday races at Enduro Elite. Round 3 saw a change in the format, with the traditional 8-hour endurance race split into two 3-hour races, plus a 1-hour morning practice.

But it was the appearance of MagiSeal sponsorship decals on the No. 822, which Daniel Demaras co-pilots, that really drew attention.

MagiSeal is a Canadian-made fabric protective coating, usually applied to new sofas and chairs, to keep them newer looking, longer. MagiSeal makes most fabrics waterproof, oilproof, and like their old slogan said… Oops-Proof.

From his No. 12 F1200 car, to the No. 16 MagiSeal Miata, this Canadian company has consistently supported Daniel Demaras. From karts to cars, from open-wheel to tin-tops, MagiSeal has made sure Demaras is on track. And, yes… Daniel’s race suits are always protected with MagiSeal to make sure they stay dry during a rain race.

The morning race in the No. 822 DriveTeq BMW was contested by Adam Ali and Daniel Ali. The two racers competed in karts at Goodwood Kartways with Daniel in the early years, but have now gone on to sportscar racing careers.

With a fresh set of Bridgestone tires on the BMW, the Ali brothers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking a comfortable win for the DriveTeq team.

For Daniel Demaras and teammate Dr. Fareed Ali, the race was filled with drama and excitement. Experinced racer Fareed was up first, taking the initial 90 minutes behind the wheel. He fought through the field and got the team into contention. Daniel took it over the top, bringing the No. 822 to the front of the pack , and o-pening up a 55 second lead in first place. Then disaster struck.

The super-sticky Bridgestone tires had just been pushed too hard, and delaminated. Daniel radioed into the team that tire cords were flapping around, tearing up the bumper, and that he’d have to pit.

After a brief pit stop, Daniel emerged in P5 and had his sights set on a podium. Quickly taking 4th place he was on the bumper of the 3rd place car when he simply ran out of laps, but during the chase set his personal best lap of 1:35.823 around Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Endurance racing is a team sport, and together the drivers and crew of the No. 822 and 821 celebrated the results.

Returning to the track on Sunday would mean a return to the time-honored 8-hour endurance race format that competitors expect from the Enduro Elite series. With a better understand of the tires, the team would be gunning for victory. Hmm… maybe the MagiSeal sponsor would bring good luck!
