Back in late October 2025, just as racing season wrapped up and the car shows had concluded, the brain-trust at Demaras Racing came up with a wicked idea. Since it’s too cold to do car stuff in winter, why not show the full “Fast & Furious” film series at a movie theater? OG’s could re-watch movies that got them into cars back n the day. And young gearheads who weren’t even alive when these movies were released, now got to see them in the cinema. We called our events the Fast Film Fest.

We got big crowds for the third film “Tokyo Drift” and of course “Furious 7” originally released in theaters after Paul Walker passed away. The more recent movies aren’t quite ‘car cinema classics’ but a die-hard group has made it out to every movie night. Every three weeks has been a chance to get together, make new friends, and sometimes have an impromptu car meet in the parking lot. We collected nearly $2,000 in donations for Paul Walker’s charity ROWW from raffle ticket sales for prizes like the Dom Toretto Starter Kit and various movie posters.

Toronto area gearheads and cinephiles are encouraged to join us at the Film.ca Cinemas in Oakville next Saturday April 11 2026. Showtime is 7:00 pm and we’ll start off the night by showing the landmark 1949 Looney Tunes cartoon “Fast and Furry-ous” staring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner in their debut. Our feature presentation will be “F9: The Fast Saga” which marked the return of director Justin Lin and his muse Sung Kang as Han Seoul-Oh who returns from the dead after two movies. Five years ago, the return of Han was a big deal, and the hashtag #JusticeForHan was trending all summer as the hero of “Tokyo Drift” would finally get to confront the man who killed him.

The Fast Film Fest didn’t draw huge crowds like we expected. It turns out not everybody wants to spend weekends and several hundred dollars over the winter to see movies they probably own on DVD. But for some of us, the real fans of the series, we’ve almost become our own fast family. Getting together, having a great time, then trying to speed away from the police on the drive home 😉
