Snow tires still on the cars, but it was an unseasonably warm Friday for early April. Toronto is such a culturally diverse city that Good Friday was nothing more than a day off work or school. One of the local car clubs posted meet-up spot o IG that seemed more interesting than the usual Tim Horton’s parking lot. This time it was the rooftop parking lot an top of the Woodbine Racetrack right under the flight path of landing jumbo jets at Pearson International Airport.
The group was different than the usual Honda crowd at these meets. Lots of BMW sedans with wraps, wheels and burble tunes. Muscle cars like Dodge Chargers and V8-powered Mustangs gave the event a drag-racing vibe, but in truth, everyone was well behaved. Cars were posed as the photographers did their thing. Then it was off to a second location in the area. The most fun part of the night was the car convoy heading down the levels of the parking garage.
The second location turned out to be a bust, as the overhead clearance of the parking structure was so low, some of the SUVs couldn’t even make it in. That was really too bad, because the eerie lighting in the garage would have made for some incredible shots, and the acoustics were amazing, making every car sound like a racer. There was a brief re-location to the outdoor overflow lot, but security quickly came around to give everyone the boot. After all, 40-50 cars just entered the paid parking lot through the exit!
The Subaru WRX in the Demaras Racing stable is much more a part of the ‘tuner car’ scene of Japanese imports, not so much the Euro or domestics at this meet. More than a little disappointing that event organizers excluded Japanese cars at the meet from the big group shot.
Still an interesting gathering, but not the right place to check out other Bugeyes, Blobeyes and Hawkeyes to see how their owners have customized or modified the vehicles.
