Around midnight on Thursday in Toronto, the male driver of an orange 2018 McLaren 570S was heading eastbound on Austin Terrace. Next to him was his female passenger, surely impressed by the beauty of the 1914 gothic revival castle called Casa Loma to the south. By any measurement, a night to remember.

The McLaren is a high-performance, track-focused car. Powered by a 3.8L twin-turbo V8 that pumps out 560 HP—not an easy car to drive quickly! As the driver approached the left hand turn onto Spadina Rd, he mounted the curb and flew in a south easterly direction, crash landing nose-up on a light pole and old stone wall. The $200,000 car was destroyed, leaving a debris field all over the sidewalk. The driver’s friend in an yellow McLaren stopped to take pictures and check on his pal.
Both occupants of the McLaren were taken to hospital with serious injuries and the driver was charged with impaired driving.
If he can afford that car, he probably doesn’t feel the pain of its loss that might otherwise better inform his behavior.
Translation: I bet he learns nothing from this.
I heard a rumor that the car was a rental… trying to impress a girl!
Ooh. He’ll never pay that off, but they’ll drain him of money anyway.
Yeh, I cannot imagine that the rental insurance includes coverage of driving like an idiot and launching the car into an historic monument.
I’m sure he left quite the impression in the lady.
Literally!
Guys are so stupid. All she wanted was a romantic evening… and he scares her to death driving too fast, then put s her in the hospital.
No third date for him!
