Max Verstappen’s final Dutch Grand Prix came to a violent end on Sunday, August 23, 2026. Starting seventh in his Red Bull, the four-time World Champion wrecked at reached the banked corner at the end of the opening lap.
Verstappen caught the slippery white line, lost control and slammed heavily into the outside barrier before the badly damaged car slid back across the circuit. Debris scattered across the track and the race was immediately red-flagged, but Verstappen was unhurt.
Even more remarkable that the accident was the replay shown later in the F1 broadcast. The sequence begins with genuine trackside footage of Verstappen’s Red Bull sliding across the circuit, then seemingly flows directly into the car’s onboard camera without a cut!
The transition appears to have been created using AI-generated or interpolated frames that bridge the two completely different camera positions, effectively inventing the viewpoint needed to move smoothly from one shot to the other. Look closely during the transition and there are telltale glitches, including sponsor lettering that briefly distorts or appears to float yet the result is spectacular.
Although AI was not used to manufacture footage of the crash itself, its seems to have been used to connect two pieces of real footage. That is a genuinely clever application of the technology.
