The Canada Day long weekend brought sunshine, warm temperatures, and Round 3 of the Mosport CRKC Championship. With the track set up to run the ‘corporate configuration’, Chris Demaras’ chances did not look promising, as he has struggled with this track in previous weeks.

Through the 3 practice sessions, driver #16 for the Demaras Auto Racing Team set times between 44.5 seconds to 44.9 seconds. A strong qualifying session (and a personal fastest time of 44.2 seconds) say Chris Demaras qualify 3rd in the field of 8 drivers.

As the race began, Demaras was under pressure from the 4th place qualifier as the drivers climbed the hill toward turn 3, the competitor tried an outside pass on Demaras. Carrying too much speed, the driver slid sideways into the path of the oncoming karts. A violent crash occurred, and one driver was thrown into the air, his racing machine tumbling into the grass. The race was red flagged, as track personnel rushed to the scene of the accident to administer first aid. Luckily, none of the injuries were serious.

As the race resumed, the racers were much more cautious, as the previous laps reminded everyone how dangerous the sport of karting can be. Chris Demaras was never in contention for the win, but drove a clean race and finished on the podium, bringing home a bronze medal for a 3rd place finish.
