By 1969, Detroit’s Big-3 were looking for a way to cash in on the hippie movement. Buick first offered women the option of dressing the roof in the latest fabrics.. But Chrysler went all in, offering crazy colours and paisley prints that matched the interior to the vinyl roof. Not sure if the name Mod Top was a play on the Beatles nickname ‘mop tops’ but these long-gone designs brought ‘flower power’ to the mainstream.
