Stay home, stay safe. That was the message. But reduced road traffic and cooped-up speeders have combined for some insanely stupid stories sine the pandemic began. On Saturday night, a 19-year-old driving his father’s Mercedes C63 AMG was caught at a death-defying 308 km/h, or 191 mph.
It was surprising that the vehicle could even reach those speeds, as the C63 AMG is factory speed-limited to 155 mph in basic trim level, or 186 mph in Black Series trim (which the car on the back of the tow truck was not) making it clear to motoring enthusiasts that the 6.2L V-8 was aftermarket tuned to exceed the limits Stuttgart set for the C-series. It was surprising that the vehicle’s tires held up to the extreme speed.
For context, Will Power’s pole-position speed at Iowa Speedway’s recent IndyCar race was only 182.391 mph
