When I was a kid growing up in the 80s, the monster truck craze was just starting out. You’d see trucks like Bigfoot make cameos in crappy movies, but if you wanted a weekly dose of vehicular disaster, you had to tune in to ‘Blood, Sweat & Gears‘. Those early monster truck shows were the best!
One of my favourite trucks was Black Magic. It was a late 70’s Ford F-250 long-bed that still had its original steel body. This was years before the tube-chassis + fiberglass bodies seen in modern monsters. These drivers didn’t even wear helmets, and most of the time, stuck their heads out the driver’s side window to see where they were going.

The truck looked like something a good ol’ boy built in his shop. Double shocks, big chrome bumpers and a light bar mounted on the cab. Looking at my GMC daily-driver now, I realize that I’m just re-creating something I saw on TV as a kid.
I’ve really gotta grow up one day. Put away the toys. Maybe lease a Camry. Or I could call up a local monster truck teams and see if they’re looking for an enthusiastic helper who only wants to drive the truck…just once.
