I’m starting to realize that I’m not a very interesting person when it comes to cars. No matter what I buy, it’s always the same thing; black. Case in point, by 1979 Austin Mini 1000. When I bought this car it was so boring. Green with a white roof on tan leather interior. That’s not classic…that’s a stereotype. So I ‘fixed‘ it by blacking it out.

Later, I had a 2003 Chevy Tracker that I kept for a decade and a half. Bought new, the little truck had roll up windows, no radio, no floor mats…completely stripped down from the Golden Mile dealership as an advertised special. I may have added a few accessories over the years, but it was still blacked out.

When I grew up, I needed something big enough to carry the family, the racing equipment, and even tow a trailer. So I bought ‘Black Magic II’. The 2016 GMC Sierra has been lifted 8″ with 33″ tires and enough off-road credibility to get the rural folks chatting at the gas station when this urban guy drives through town.

Looking back at these three vehicles, it’s just the same thing over and over again…
