That is not lost that comes at last. Better late than never. Whatever…fill in the cliché of your choosing… the Goodwood Awards Banquet finally happened!

On Sunday December 18 2022, at the palatial Premier Place Banquet Hall, the 2020 – 2021 – 2022 Goodwood Awards Banquet was at capacity as Champions from three years of kart racing were finally recognized for their achievements.

After a delicious three-course meal that wouldn’t be out of place at an Italian wedding, the prize giving ceremony began.

Our master of ceremonies, Dan Di Leo, began by crowning the 2020 TRAK Champions. While some competitors were not in attendance, racers like Matte Ferrari and Anthony Simone lined up shoulder to shoulder with Briggs & Stratton Masters class champion Daniel Demaras.

In 2020, Demaras raced with stunning HRT F1 inspired livery, and punched above his weight. During his first year with New Speed Motorsports, Demaras claimed his first podiums, poles and wins in club racing, on route to the 2020 Championship.

2021 was another strong season. The No. 412 took on the white, black and neon-yellow livery of the 2007 Formula 1 championship winning Brawn F1 car, and tried to live up the its legacy. Pole position at Nationals and a win in a KartStars Canada race were highlights of the season. Demaras clinched his second TRAK title with one race remaining in the season, and had already started testing an F1200 with Vallis Motor Sport before the year ended.

Daniel’s competitive kart racing career was capped off by back-to-back TRAK Championships. The banquet was an opportunity to return to the club where he’d raced for so many years to see old friends and rivals one more time.

Eight years racing karts earned Daniel two CRKC Championships and two TRAK Championships. Competing at a driver’s course like Goodwood Kartways really helped Demaras hone his racecraft, and the opportunity to race at multiple tracks with the KartStars Canada series taught him how to quickly learn and adapt to a new circuit, and changing conditions. It’s been quite a journey.
