McLaren revealed special liveries for their 2023 Indianapolis 500 challengers, paying tribute to the team’s past glory. Rossi’s No. 7 in papaya and blue honors Johnny Rutherford 1976 Indy 500 win, and the No. 5 of O’Ward mimics the 1995 McLaren F1 GTR’s win at Le Mans win. In a surprise to nobody, Tony Kanaan’s No. 66 carries sponsorship from 7-Eleven and it’s orange!
Then there’s the No. 6 of Swedish sensation Felix Rosenqvist in full Marlboro livery.

McLaren claims that the livery does not break any ‘rules’ about tobacco advertising, as it is not a duplication of the peaked roof trademark of the Marlboro brand, bust is just an homage to the MP4-2 in which Alain Prost won the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. Demaras Racing suspects that by the month of May, Philip Morris will announce it refreshing and tangy new Marlboro Citrus flavored cigarettes, just in time for the Indy 500!
