Everyone knows David Letterman as co-owner of RLL Rahal Letterman Lanigan racing team that won the Indianapolis 500 in 2004 with Buddy Rice, and again in 2020 with Takuma Sato. During the 33 years the Hoosier had a late-night TV show, Letterman never hid his love of cars.

But dude had an absurdist sense of humour, and often brought some weird people on his show (or put normal people into weird situations). In this YouTube clip from a 1985 show, Letterman talked to motorists about their personalized “vanity” plates. He got the owner of a Monte Carlo with the plate ‘ACOOL 75’ to talk smack about the driver of a Mustang with the plate ‘ACOOL 65’ just for laughs. He even got ‘FATTBOY’ and ‘FATGUY’ together to compare who was the real ‘big man’.
Enjoy!
By the way, the video is hilarious!!! You got love David.
Gosh, when you look at how funny and weird Letterman was, you can’t believe they give this guy a TV show in the conservative ‘old’ days.
Then compare him to the sorry late-nite shows on the air now, and it makes you miss Letterman even more. Thank goodness for his YT channel!

And the Oscar for the best 1980s outfit goes to… The yellow-shirt Mustang guy.
