Grand Prix cars raced on the Nurburgring from 1927 until 1976 but eventually, the Nordschleife was deemed just too gosh-darned unsafe for F1 machinery. The German Grand Prix was moved to more modern tracks like the Hockenheimring, racing as recently as 2019. Since there is no German Grand Prix in 2023, the friendly folks at Red Bull decided to give the Germans a little taste of what they’re missing.
None other than Sebastian Vettel drove the RB7, and old-timer David Coulthard drove the RB8 (after Daniel Ricciardo had to pull out of the event due to a wrist injusry) at the Red Bull Formula Nurburgring. The championship winning cars from 2011 & 2012 were run on pure synthetic fuels as part of Vettel’s project ‘Race Without Trace‘ promoting sustainability.

The event included drifting, motocross stunts, Mathias Lauda driving his father Niki Lauda’s Ferrari 312T, and even the all-electric Ford Supervan 4. Of course, the highlight was the V9-powered Formula 1 cars back o the historic track.
