Parked at Can Jam Motorsports you’ll find Demaras Racing 2002 ‘Bugeye’. The stock car is ready for a new engine, most likely a 2.5L turbocharged EJ255 from a later model WRX. But as for the rest of the car, it’s undecided if it will remain a daily driver, or be transformed into something more; like this!

This car belongs to Randy, an employee at IAG Performance, a Subaru speed shop in Maryland.

The vanilla Subaru Impreza L has been stripped down and modified into a competitive track car that can keep up with big-brother Subaru WRX and STI. The car has had the same owner for 16 years and despite its age (1999 GC Impreza), the vehicle still looks clean. But as a track car, it has all the right stuff:

  • Volk Racing TE37 wheels
  • AP racing big brake kit
  • EJ205 motor (from WRX)
  • Top-mount intercooler (from STi)
  • Blouch 16G turbo
  • 15-gallon fuel cell
  • Radium surge tank
  • AEM fuel pump
  • 6-speed manual (from STi)
  • carbon fiber drive shaft

This car will never be a daily driver again, so the interior has been stripped for weight savings, and is now home to a full roll cage and SPARCO Racing seat. Not likely that we’ll be going this far with our WRX. It’s just so fun daily driving the bugeye. But this build is definitely giving us some ideas.
