My city’s attempts to improve traffic safety almost got me T-boned yesterday. At this residential intersection, the City of Toronto has narrowed the lanes and added ‘pylons’ to prevent anyone from cutting the corner.
Now, cars actually drive into oncoming traffic, because the lanes are so narrow and the corner such a tight radius.

But the worst part is that they moved the actual intersection way out in the middle of the cross streets. The stop sign is 10 m back there on the curb. So when cars reach ‘the line’ where they’re supposed to stop, most just blow right through it.
When you’re stopped at the line and think it’s your turn to go…look out! So easy to get smashed into.

Way to go City of Toronto. Take one problem and create two new problems. This article is probably a little confusing, so I’ll try and get footage of the Canadian stand-off at the intersection in the morning. You know, the one where everyone just waits for the other guy to go.
