When Canadian racer Daniel Morad crossed the finish line at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona yesterday, Canadians from sea to shining sea rejoiced. Some even shed a tear for our countryman as he took victory in the GT Daytona class at North America’s premier endurance race.

Morad’s teammates Russell Ward, Indy Dontje and Philip Ellis in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes cheered the veteran Canadian wheelman as he fought off attacks of two hard-charging Ferraris; the final stint to victory! The overall win in the 62nd running of the 24 Hours of Daytona went to Team Penske in their Porsche 963, but a class victory in GTD was the maximum result Morad could have hoped for.

In an example of how small the Canadian motorsports community is, even Demaras Racing has a connection here. Morad ran a kart racing series called MORADNESS at Goodwood Kartways, the track that our Daniel Demaras started racing at. The first MORADNESS event was actually won by Demaras’ karting coach/tuner Leonard D’Arrigo. Small world!
This is so cool!!!
When I checked the results the next morning, I didn’t realize that he was a fellow Canadian, who had won the race.
Congratulations!!!!
Yes! Im always so happy to see one of US in there battling at the front of the grid.
.
What I like about Daniel Morad is that he still hangs out with regular people. Races Lucky Dog (cheapest endurance racing series in Canada) and holds those go-karting events at Goodwood and Mosport.
.
He’s around young drivers, letting them see that a local boy can achieve success on the global stage of motor racing.
