This website started out as a place to post pictures and results from our racing activities, but we also cover ‘car culture’ and significant events in motor racing. This story is a marriage between fast films, racing and car culture, and we couldn’t resist.

Japan is a car crazy country, home to the WRX and Takuma Sato. Strangely, the capital city of Tokyo has never hosted a motor race on its streets. That all changed last weekend when FIA Formula E hosted the inaugural Tokyo E-Prix.

To promote the race, organizers brought in a famous face from Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift. The funny thing about the actor so strongly associated with Tokyo is totally American. Sung Kang was actually born in Georgia, deep in the US bible belt, and was raised by his Korean mom and black stepdad. There is nothing Japanese about him except the character he played in the third F&F film lived in Japan. He was the Steve McQueen of Tokyo, and that cool persona was the ideal spokesperson for the big race.

On a side note, Italian outfit Maserati’s German driver Max Gunther won the Japanese E-Prix. Not that anybody really cares. Formula E has made it impossible to be a fan. Races are by subscription only (long gone are the FOX Sports broadcasts) and even series news on Motorsport.com is hidden behind a paywall.

The important thing is Han was there to bless the event, making it a success.
