Just before the long weekend, the CASC (Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs) released their spring news brief. The warned racers about a cut-rate safety harnesses available at a local shop (not SFI Certified) and reviewed notes from recent Time Attack and Autoslalom. Then they shared the bad news that the CASC Karting Division has been shut down.

At the February Karting Organizers meeting the decision was made to wind-up the Karting Division and remove CASC-OR from karting activities. GDS – ASN Canada has agreed to provide track inspections and all of the statutory requirements for Arrive and Drive programs pursuant to the TSSA regulations.

While Demaras Racing hasn’t competed in kart racing for several years, our good friend Scott Fletcher had just been appointed Director of Karting, replacing the outgoing Robin Buck. Gosh, this must be the shortest term for a director in CASC history.

This is really disappointing! Fletcher only got the position in November, and hadn’t even had the chance to implement some of the great changes he had planned such as creating a unified ruleset for all affiliated tracks, and introducing a provincial class ranking system to acknowledge the accomplishments of racers at all tracks.
