Demaras Racing once teamed up with Can-Jam Motorsports and CSCS Racing for the second Gearheads Giving Back fundraiser in support of SickKids Hospital. Daniel displayed his championship-winning No. 12 Formula 1200 race car at Round 2 of the Canadian Sport Compact Series. This time, the event was held at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, ON.
Throughout the morning, Demaras competed in Time Attack on the road course, showing enthusiasts how quick an F1200 is in the corners. After lunch, the car was put on display near the main stage, and spectators made donations to SickKids for a chance to drive the F1200 car.

To generate some more interest in the Gearheads Giving Back fundraiser, and let spectators see the power of an F1200 car, Daniel entered the race car into the ‘2-Step Battle’. This is a loudest exhaust competition with flames shooting out tailpipes to the sound of shotgun-pops.
A huge crowd assembled for a sound clash between a modified BMW, an Infinity G35, a Nissan 350Z, a retro Eagle Talon and a 1999 Vallis-built BRD-chassis F1200 with its 1.2L flat-four engine. Sure it was like bringing a knife to a gunfight, but at least the No. 12 was louder than the teal Talon!

With the crowd still hanging around after the ‘2-Step Battle’ Daniel prepared for a surge in donations. But suddenly, the sky grew dark, the winds picked up and a storm rumbled through the paddock. Tents and canopies went airbourse in the gale force winds and everyone got drenched in a deluge of rain.
The storm passed as quickly as it arrived, and all the competitors and spectators were left standing around wondering if they’d just survived a tornado. The mood was bleak, until the DJ turned up the volume on retro 80s hits like ‘Walking In The Rain‘ by Oran ‘Juice’ Jones and ‘Blame It On The Rain‘ by dynamic duo Milli Vanilli. Suddenly, things didn’t seem so dark.

As the end of the day approached, the podium ceremonies began. CSCS events are massive, with drag racing, time attack, drifting and even show car competitions. While Kevin and Duane from CSCS handed out trophies at the road course, MC Davin kicked of the ceremonies on the main stage.
Getting things started was Demaras Racing’s raffle for the thrill ride in a race car. Donations totaling over $1,500 were collected for SickKids Hospital, and now it was one for one lucky person to get the grand prize. After a quick spin of the brass drum, Alan from Mississauga, representing Chaotic Car Club, was declared the winner. He ran up on stage and held his arms up in victory, and it was great to see someone so excited about winning the grand prize.

It was a long and tiring day for Daniel and Chris from Demaras Racing. They’d arrived at the track at 8:00 am, and twelve hours later were finally headed home with the No. 12 strapped to the trailer. But it was all worth it. The chance to compete against some of the fastest drivers in CSCS, and even to battle it out with the loudest cars, all while running a fundraiser for one of Toronto’s most worthy charities.
Demaras Racing will be skipping the next two CSCS Racing events at Calabogie and Grand Bend as there are conflicts with the Canadian F1200 Championship schedule. But the No. 12 will be back at Cayuga on Sunday September 15th for the final round of the 2024 CSCS Racing series. One more winner will win a thrill ride in the F1200 car, and Gearheads Giving Back will aim to collect even more donations for SickKids Hospital.
Looking forward to something special in September!
