Sunday morning at the track. Last race day of the summer for the Canadian Formula 1200 Championship. After this weekend, it’ll be six weeks until the next competition. All the racers want one more chance to shine.
Road racing is a roller-coaster of emotion. Getting frustrated about an underpowered engine isn’t going to help anybody. The only thing to do is focus, concentrate and drive to the best of your ability. There is no foregone conclusion in racing.
In Race 2, Demaras maximized his results taking home a podium finish crossing the line P3. It was a real accomplishment considering the mechanical issues the No. 12 has suffered from. But no excuses this time. The driver made a difference, and the team was proud of him.
Attrition took its tole of the field for the Final Race. Several cars didn’t make the green flag. But as always, Daniel and his No. 12 were on track, fighting for racing glory.
Demaras started on the second row and fought hard against the yellow No. 38 all the way to the finish line. A late race yellow flag ended the race early, preventing Daniel’s planned last-lap attack.
Off the podium, Demaras’ body language didn’t hide his disappointment. As the reigning champ he expected to be more competitive, but there simply are things you cannot control.
One of the F1200 competitors who had been strong all weekend had a spin and crash on the last corner of the last lap. Sadly it robbed him of the Touring Trophy and the Vallis Cup which was being awarded to the top points-scorer of the weekend. A worthy Jason A in the No. 19 swopped in to take home both trophies and bring glory to the Vallis Motor Sport team.
After the summer break, the Canadian Formula 1200 Championship will return to competition on September 21st and 22nd for the BEMC Indian Summer Trophy race at historic Mosport.
