Pair of Top-10’s at Sunset Speedway

Last season, Daniel Demaras stepped out of his comfort zone in ‘road-racing’ and competed in a partial season of ‘short-oval’ stock car racing. He joined the SKLD team up at Sunset Speedway and enjoyed every minute of competition. Local motorsports scribe Ashley McCubbin from SHORT TRACK MUSINGS recently did an article on SKLD, helping us catch up with the team,

INNISFIL, Ontario — If racing is like riding a roller coaster, than SKLD Motorsports is beginning to enjoy the thrills of the first drop after working hard chucking their way to the top of the lift hill.

It did not begin with all sunshine and roses on Saturday night, as Austyn Jennett was forced pit side early in his heat with a mechanical issue. He did not let it get him down, rebounding by winning the Rags to Riches Dash for Cash shortly thereafter. He took the green flag deep in the feature, working his way through the traffic en route to a fourth-place finish. It marks his fifth top-10 of 2024, and first top-five result.

SKLD Motorsports has also got the No. 7 back on-track in recent weeks, with Super Stock regular Matt McGrath jumping behind the wheel. After fighting mechanical gremlins in his first week on-track with the Hilltop Nationals, he rebounded for a top-five in his heat followed by a solid ninth in the feature.

Karlie Wilman, meanwhile, has been plagued by mechanical gremlins throughout the season to date, until now. She scored a top-five in her heat to automatically transfer straight to the main event, and took full advantage in battling to a 13th-place finish on the lead lap.
