There’s an amateur racing discipline called autocross (shortened to Auto-X) where a temporary circuit made up of traffic cones is set up in a parking lot. The circuits are tight and twisty to keep speeds low, and usually favour small, light and nimble cars like the Mazda Miata.

Recently, the Demaras Racing team was at the Mosport DDT for a high-performance driving experience. While at the track, the GMC monster truck took a detour and stumbled across an Auto-X course set up in the parking lot. With a little begging, the newly christened BLACK MAGIC truck was allowed to compete,

The vehicle specifications are impressive; a 323 cubic inch V8 making 355 HP, but it’s also a 5,440 lb beast standing 7′ tall. Mot exactly ideal for an Auto-X event. But ‘Black Magic’ did set the fastest time of the day through the sea of cones. Fastest time set by a truck anyway. OK… only time set by a truck.

For years, the Demaras Racing GMC has been a tow-vehicle, daily-driver and a family vehicle. Now it’s finally living up to its potential as a professional grade race truck.
