Many gearheads suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. It kicks in when racing season ends and local car meets wrap up. While non-prescription medication exists, the DIY solution seems to be adding Christmas lights to cars. The friendly folks at ILLUMI certainly know this.

At 600,000 sq. ft., the equivalent of 10 football fields, ILLUMI is the biggest Christmas Lights show in Canada, and runs until January 5 2025. Billed as a nocturnal adventure built with the magic of light, ILLUMI uses 20 million LED bulbs to light up 16 ‘universes’ like The Land of Frost, The European Place, The Scarlet Spiders and The Crazy Boulevard.

Classic cars line the streets of this universe that focuses on the glamour and glitz of Hollywood movies. Not sure what it has to do with Christmas, but the fully synchronized music and lights are incredible.

There are plenty of traditional displays too, with a 10-storey tall LED Christmas tree and an Ice Palace that looks like Elsa and Anna from ‘Frozen‘ live there. On the weekend, the temperature was -12°C adding an authentic chill to the experience.

At the exit of Illumi was a familiar glow coming in parking lot. Over in the corner were a dozen Christmas Light Cars lined up in formation. How fortunate that we brought our Christmas Truck and an extension cord. More on that tomorrow!

But it was a lot of fun, and the icicles on our noses added to the experience.
