For the 2025 racing season, Demaras Racing is exploring the Miata Canada Cup. For research, we tuned in the Mazda MX-5 Cup race at the ‘Rolex 24’ at Daytona International Speedway just in time to see a wreck break out only 10 seconds into the race, damaging more than a dozen race cars and bringing out the red flag.
That’s not a good start to the 2025 season. All those poor wrecked Miatas.
I’ve been stumbling upon so many sarchastic posts about that wreck. Tjat hundreds of dollars of damage was done. Or how hard it is to control all 150 raging horsepowers.

Im guessing that since this is the first race of the season, and many drivers in Spec Miata are new, it was just a perfect storm.

I feel bad for the drivers and the cars. It really sucks to be taken out so early. It’s hard to get race experience when you wreck before you’ve driven a lap.
Imagine how much it rattled everyones confidence too.

My don is considering racing in Miata Canada Cup this year (just like the series in this video, but north of the 49th parallel). Lots of ‘new’ drivers, some fresh out of go-karts, others are middle-aged guys living out race car dreams. I can only imagine how crushing it would be to any of those guys if this rype of wrech happened.

Some can not afford to fix a wrecked race car. Everyone’s confidence will be shaken. Just not good.
