The Cybertruck is a truck built for non-truck people. All about appearance and style; form over function. There’s a lot of hate directed at the Cybertruck, but seeing one next to your own old-fashioned truck might change your view on the retro-futuristic design.

Then a video of a $100K beast stuck in the snow will make you question the viability of the Cybertruck all over again.

The TikTok video above, shot in Montreal this past weekend, shows the Tesla unable to deal with even a moderate amount of snow. Some folks blame the all-season tires Tesla equips the vehicle with. That’s a factor, but surely the poor design of it’s 4WD system is to blame. Notice how the front wheels slip while the rear wheels are stationary, then vice versa? The car computer is trying to determine which wheels have grip and which wheels slip, and sending power to the appropriate axle.

On a traditional truck, power is sent to both axles simultaneously.

Many gearheads cannot comprehend how a vehicle so ill-designed ever made it to market. For example, the vehicle’s headlights become completely obstructed by snow as it collects on the Cybertruck’s front bumper, which is essentially a giant shelf. That strip of lights at the front edge of the hood aren’t the headlights; those re for show!

The headlights are down there by the red arrow!

And all those fancy cameras mounted on the Tesla are rendered completely useless when Canadian levels of snow fall. The simply get obstructed as snow covers the lenses. There are recent reports of moving parts freezing in place, like doors, windows, mirrors, and wipers. But the real kick in the teeth is the range of the battery decreases from a supposed 500 miles between charges to 270 miles in the cold.

Much as some want to like this retro-futuristic vehicle, it’s just not ready for prime time.

    1. It’s really sad that so much effort in design and engineering is put into a car that 2% of the population can actually afford.
      .
Imagine if Tesla put their resources into building the modern day VW Beetle, or Model T Ford (attainable to ever working man) rather than a $140K vehicle with too much power and polarizing looks. It could have a huge impact on society.

    1. For the six figures they charged for it, you figure someone would think to put a locker in the differential. It’s not very truck like.
      .
But maybe I am missing the point. Maybe it’s just a styling exercise, not a truck.
      .
Just look at those Hondas and Chryslers driving past the stuck truck.

      1. Might make a good song:

        [Verse]
        My Cyber truck is stuck
        Oh! WTF
        I’m shocked at this truck
By how much it really sucks

        [Chorus]
How did I get sucked in by the hype
Now I can’t even afford to wipe
But there is an upside to the down you see
The Cyber truck does the wiping for me

        [Bridge]
The truck will go fast, but
I can’t haul anything but my own ass
The carbon cars are passing, OMG, oh no!
While my Cyber truck is stuck, spinning in the snow

      2. Bro… is that you? With the twang and the gee-tar?
        .
Permit me to download and use that song in an article next week. I don’t care if I have to drive around looking for a Cybertruck this weekend… I’ll get some good footage.

      3. Not me singing or playing. Good old AI made the song from my instructions and lyrics. You can use the link in your post: copy the link, then under “Embeds” choose “SoundCloud Embed” and paste the link in the space provided.

    1. I can forgive stupid things like snow collecting on the headlights. That’s an oversight that would have been caught if the company did any actual testing in Alaska like other car makers. But not being able to get out of a snowy parking spot is unforgiveable.

  1. To make things worse, the truck is poorly built. There are videos on the internet showing pieces of the car literally falling off, which is kind of common among Tesla products.
Oh, and don’t forget the Cybertruck weak tie rods.

    1. When I was at the AutoShow last week, there was a Cybertruck on display. I stood by the tailgate. Where the rear fender meets the tail wasn’t curved, radiused or anything. Just a sheet of stainless with a sharp edge. Not impressive.
