Next weekend, Daniel from Demaras Racing will begin a new challenge He’ll race in the 2025 CASC Miata Canada Cup, his first crack at ‘sportscar racing’ after 3 years in open-wheel racing and 7 years in kart racing. Each racing discipline from drifting to rally adds to a driver’s skillset. And if there is one driver whom Daniel admires for his absolute mastery of different disciplines, it would be the legendary Mario Andretti. Not just because of his championships, but for the diverse races he competed in, and won.

Mario Andretti took four IndyCar National Championships in 1965, 1966, 1969, and then again in 1984 at the age of 44.

Between those championship years, he jumped to Formula 1 and in 1978 he took home the Formula 1 World Championship in a Lotus-Ford.

In 1974 Andretti also won the USAC National Dirt Car Championship which couldn’t be any more different than open-wheel racing.

Undoubtedly, what’s made Andretti a world renown racer is winning the ‘big race’ is a wide variety of racing disciplines. Marquee events which Mario Andretti won include:
- Indianapolis 500 in 1969
- Pocono 500 in 1986
- Daytona 500 in 1967
- Pikes Peak Hill Climb in 1969
- German Grand Prix at Hockenheim in 1978
- Italian Grand Prix at Monza in 1977
- Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji in 1976
- 12 Hours of Sebring in 1967, ’70, ’72
- 24 Hours of Daytona in 1972
- 24 Hours of Le Mans (WSC class) in 1995
Living legend Mario Andretti has 111 professional racing wins at major circuits in diverse disciplines from open-wheel cars, to sports cars, to stock cars. He was immortalized in Pixar’s 2006 film ‘Cars‘ and until 2020 when he was 80-years-old, Andretti drove the IndyCar 2-Seater for special guests at race weekends.

Mario Andretti continues to inspire generations of young racers to demonstrate their skill by extracting the maximum performance from any race car, regardless of the track, surface, or conditions.
I watched Mario Andretti race a few times back in the day, on tv.
Greg’s friends called him Mario back in his early 20’s. Maybe a commentary on his driving skills?
I’m looking forward to reading about Daniel’s experiences this season.
It’s quite the compliment when a name (first OR last) is synonymous with speed. Very cool.
.
Thanks for the support. This should be a fun weekend 30+ cars racing instead of 7 or 8. Plenty of competition!
Go Speed Racer Demaras!
