The Miami Grand Prix is kind of… weird. Every year when the F1 circus rolls into town, the promoters try to make is special by painting the cars in special Miami Vice inspired liveries with pink and pastel blue colour schemes. But the city of Miami is so much more than just a 40 year old TV show.
Luckily, the race promoter came up with a new gimmick this year; the driver’s parade took place in life-sized F1 cars made of Lego.

Each of the vehicles were hand-built to look just like the race cras, complete with sponsor logos and team livery. Such a huge amount of work! Powered by low-speed electric motors, the 1.5 ton vehicles carried both drivers from each team. One got to drive, the other to film. Here’s what the chaos looked like from the inside.
There’s a full YouTube video of the driver’s parade that shows just how quickly it devolved into a demolition derby. But you had to expect this. Twenty race car drivers in identical vehicles going around the circuit was always going to turn into a race.
Very clever.
A year’s work by those Lego builders…wrecked in less than 3 minutes!
Clever and so much work just to destroy it.
I read about this. 400,000 lego blocks.
And a long, long time to build the cars. Massive project… crunched in a single lap.
I’m surprised thay made a lap.
I guess they glued the pieces on. Even going over the bumps would have rattled stuff loose.
