People just can’t seem to take a joke. Over the weekend, the marketing bigwigs at Dodge decided to poke fun at themselves a little bit, and folks got all bent out of shape. Dodge posted a four image slideshow on Insta featuring their big American muscle cars the Charger, Challenger and Hellcat. Each image includes a satirical caption about Why Marriage Is Scary like “What if you have to like them more than you love your Hellcat?“

Acknowledging that people speed in their Demons, even on public roads, Dodge threw in a sarcastic caption “Wheat if she doesn’t like street takeovers?”. This was obviously a joke, genuinely poking fun at their cars’ reputation.

But keyboard warriors and politically correct websites like The Autopian would make you think Dodge was promoting devil worship, not just their Demon model. The aforementioned website called street takeovers
“…the very worst of American car culture — an abhorrent display of utter recklessness and complete lack of consideration for the wellbeing of others…”.
Wow… fancy-schmancy words from a car website. Dodge isn’t promoting street takeovers, they’re making a joke. It may be in poor taste, but that’s individual opinion. Certain segments of the American public is just so pathetic; so desperate to be offended by anything. They blow their noses on the Bill of Rights whenever someone says something they do not agree with.

The Dodge Demon is not the responsible for the ills of society, and the notion that a car company is responsible for the actions of their customers is crazy. Street takeovers are filled with thrill-seeking, disenfranchised youth, and those who just want to watch the world burn. Trying to blame Dodge or any other car brand is just ignoring the root cause of the problem, rather than addressing it.
Good for Dodge. The perpetually offended don’t get jokes and can’t find anything to like in their pathetically dismal worldview.
That’s a way better word than snowflake… the perpetually offended.
We live in an age of whiny special snowflakes who, for some inexplicable reason, are taken far more seriously than they have reason to be and who wield far more power than is rational.
Now we wait to see if Dodge falls all over itself to apologize for their ‘transgression’.
You want to have an opinion, no matter how outrageous? Fine.
But my tolerance of your views ends when it leads to action that infringes on the rights of me or others.
Seems like the only thing Dodge did was delete the post. I don’t know. Doubling down wasnt going to fix the situation. Maybe the street takeovers comment was tone deaf in today’s world. But certainly it didn’t deserve to have people putting the blood of innocent victims of street racing on Dodge’s corporate hands.

Your right to swing your arm ends at the tip of my nose is what I was taught. Seems today you can’t even swing ’em.
Oh, you can swing. If you’re swinging at the right (that is, ‘wrong’) person.
If people are worried about safety, why don’t they make it legal to meet to race and meet? I thought the ads were funny.
I remember a couple years ago, the mayor of Atlanta tried that. Made it legal to “hoon” cars north of X Street. Abandoned lot? Check. Police? Nope.
.
It may not have been the perfect solution, but it kept people from taking over downtown intersections.
.
And the ad IS funny.
