After unloading the 1992 Subaru SVX from the trailer, Bucky Lasek starts digging into many of its issues. What he finds leads him into acquiring another donor car just to pull parts from in order to make his daughter’s car road worthy once again. Kartboy Tom and Jordan from The Loft Performance chip in to help address a bad transmission and many other electrical issues.
Follow the continuing adventures of Bucky Lasek on his YouTube channel as he tries to put together the coolest car a teenaged girls has ever received.
I will eagerly follow this story.
I remember buying a beat up VW Beetle in about 1988 to fix up so our son would have a “decent” car for school when he got his license in 1989. I spent many months fixing, replacing, repairing the car from end to end, top to bottom. We gave him the car on his 16th b’day in Dec 1989 and he drove is proudly until Jul 3rd, 1990, when he was playing with the radio at a decent speed and took it off the road and over a number of boulders and destroying the suspension, bent rims, cracked the trans axle and engine. I ended up parting the rest of it out to a neighbor and a couple of friends at work. He didn’t have a car until fall when he got a rusted out Ford 4 door Escort. He was not happy, but then neither was I.
Oh no… that is a terrible story! All the time and effort you put into that classic bug so your kid would have… let’s face it… a COOL car not just transportation.
.
Sure, there’s the financial cost, but that was a labour of love. A classic car, 16th birthday, what more could a youngster want? I am amazed that 35 years later you remember the day the car was wrecked. July 3.
.
Like Bucky Lasek, I too have a teenaged daughter just reaching driving age. I cannot tell you how bad an idea an SVX is, as I have owned one for 10+ years and it is impossible to find parts. Impossible to find specialists to work on its ‘unique’ features. And other than uniquely good looks, the car is actually quite slow.
.
But I too will follow along the story of Bucky’s SVX and hope his daughter has nothing but years of trouble free driving with it.
