The 2025 racing season has been tough for Carlos Sainz. Displaced by Lewis Hamilton at the Ferrari F1 team, Sainz signed with Williams F1 in a long-term ‘rebuilding’ project. At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday, Spaniard Sainz converted his P2 qualifying to a P3 finishing position, earning Williams F1 its first podium in four years.
Was Carlos’ podium pure luck, or perhaps the track was uniquely suited to Williams F1’s car? Perhaps the racing gods just smiled upon Sainz because he is nice to little kids and loves unicorns. A great result for a great guy.
Conversely at front-running Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton has now competed in 17 consecutive F1 races without a podium, which is a new record for the red team. And to think that’s the guy Ferrari are paying $100M to, as the replacement for top-tier driver Carlos Sainz. It’s a shame because Carlos is younger, faster and has better hair.
