A 12-year-old boy in Sacramento, California really tempted fate last week.
On Monday morning, the boy grabbed the keys to his parent’s pickup truck and drove to school. The underaged, unlicensed motorist miraculously made it to his destination, accidentally rolled over several traffic cones, then heard police approaching.

The young hooligan was afraid he’d get caught, so he took off with cruisers in pursuit at speeds over 110 km/h. The boy first crashed into a parked car, then when boxed in by Sacramento’s finest, also hit a police car in another attempt to escape.
The young driver was taken into temporary custody and placed in the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall, since kids as young as 12 can be charged in juvenile court in California. The boy has been charged with hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, reckless evasion and theft of a vehicle.
While too young for his name to be released to the public, the suspect was released to his parents who will dole out their own punishment. The family Ford has extensive damage and looks like a write-off. But that’s the least of anybody’s worry.

This kid could have killed someone; himself, a teacher, a school chum or an innocent bystander. The little maniac’s instinctive reaction wasn’t to throw himself at the mercy of the police. It was to create chaos in an escape attempt. God help us all when this kid is a licensed driver in 4 years.
Kids these days. Now when I yell at them to get off my lawn, it’s because they parked on it!
Bro… you are funny. Whenever we post a story like this on Demaras Racing, it’s always with the advice to “take your kid to the track”. But this wasn’t a teenager out for a joyride in mom’s LeBaron after midnight.
.
This story is kind of sad. The kid took the family Ford to go to his old school, 7AM on a Monday morning. I guess he was unhappy that they moved, or that he changed schools.
Yeah, this kid’s story is almost certainly not a happy one. I don’t know about his family life in general, but a move is rough.
I hope he learns from this experience rather than ruin his life. I guess time will tell.
Yeah, when I first read this article, I thought it would be a funny story of a kid stealing his mom’s car to get a milkshake from Dairy Queen. But taking the car at 7AM to go to his old school is not a “joy” ride.
No, it isn’t.
