License plate flippers are a smart device that allows vehicles at car shows to display custom plates, or even no plates while parked. Removing license plates when arriving at a car show is a chore that’s cost too many pairs of jeans their knees. Yet because of a few unscrupulous people using these devices while driving, the license plate flipper is getting a bad rap.

In several parts of the country, calls are bring made to stop the sale of license plate flippers because they may enables rogue motorists and fleeing criminals to disguise themselves at the push of a button.
The devises are manufactured in China, and distributed worldwide through online retailers. While some plate blockers lower ‘shutters’ to completely obscure a lice plate, the traditional flipper rotates to temporarily display a second plate. More like a party trick than a James Bond device, its interesting how the potential loss of revenue has prompted several jurisdictions to outlaw them.

License plate flippers could, theoretically be used to defeat speed cameras, red light cameras and highway tolls.
A university professor in Malaysia has called for the devices to be made illegal in his country, as they’re designed to conceal a driver’s identity and evade responsibility. Enforcement systems, such as automatic speed cameras that conveniently mail tickets to drivers, or those used to charge money for trailing through a red light, might be compromised, resulting in financial losses for the municipality.

Police are making arrests and media is sounding the panic alarm. Plate flippers are being blamed for potential increases in dangerous driving, more accidents and the obstruction of investigation of serious crimes. Criminals committing theft, drug smuggling, or hit-and-run accidents could vanish at the push of a button, even though the use of fake or stolen plates has long been in the criminals toolkit.

If regular motorists start buying these devices from shops like 510AutoGroup or online giants like Amazon who offer free shipping, all those automatic speed cameras won’t make money! Government agencies could lose lose millions in tolls and fines.
