License plate flippers are a smart device that allows vehicles at car shows to display custom plates, or even no plates while parked. Police are making arrests and media is sounding the panic alarm. Plate flippers are being blamed for potential increases in dangerous driving, more accidents and the obstruction of investigation of serious crimes. Criminals committing theft, drug smuggling, or hit-and-run accidents could vanish at the push of a button, even though the use of fake or stolen plates has long been in the criminals toolkit.
