Imagine your driver’s license was suspended, but you made the decision to drive anyway. I bet you would be the safest driver on the road. Signaling lane changes, driving the speed limit; anything to avoid drawing attention to yourself from the boys in blue.

Seems that a Toronto man whose license was suspended in 1985 has been driving around the city for 40 years. Amazing that the motorist initially got his license suspended when he was 20 years old, and has continued to drive until now, when he’s only 5 years from retirement age.

Wisdom does not always come with age, as the man was caught speeding on Hwy 407 at a blistering 144 km/h, well over the 100 km/h maximum. If he could just have kept at cruising altitude, he could have avoided being caught for an indefinite length of time.

Along with the big speeding ticket, and charges for driving with a suspended license, police also found an outstanding warrant on the man, so he was taken into custody and his vehicle impounded.

  1. Is one’s license suspended for life in Canada? Here it’s for a period of time determined by the judge and the offence. I think it can be suspended for life if the offences are bad enough. People drive with suspended licenses out here all the time.

    1. There’s many different lengths of time for license suspensions here in Ontario, Canada. Get enough tickets with ‘demerit points’ and you might get a 30 day suspension. DUI could get you a year suspension.

As a driver who has had a license suspension due to failing to renew, all you have to do is pay the fine, wait out the suspension, then go to the MTO and get a new license. But you do have to pay the fines!

I think this fellow in the article got his DL suspended, then never did anything about it. I also think that driving without a license, or without insurance, is quite rare over here.
